Confessions of a Style Fanatic is AFRO’s latest fashion column, featuring style guru Tonae’ Lee, which serves as your go-to for style tips, fashion advice, designer exclusives and much more!

Other forms of sustainable shopping are consignment and vintage markets. Those pieces, typically marked at a higher price point than thrifted items, are usually rare or designed by a luxury brand. Upcycling and versatility are key when it comes to style. It’s not about what you wear, it’s how you wear it.

With the rise of social media and other internet technology, my blog transitioned from pictures of my outfits to styling commercial shoots with local boutiques and designers. Through building online campaigns and photoshoots, my love for editorial styling grew. An editorial stylist is someone who is responsible for sourcing garments and designs to produce a concept that executes the client’s vision for a publication or photoshoot engagement. Once I found my niche, Style Fanatic Stylings, a digital style house offering wardrobe services and creative direction, was born.

Aside from my personal brand, the opportunities have been endless. In addition to  managing the Style Fanatic brand, I am a styling associate, blogger and content creator at the Dollhouse Boutique in Baltimore, Md. Creating fashion avenues through all aspects is the goal.

You are probably asking yourself, “Why Fashion?” The purpose of this column is to highlight and celebrate Black fashion and creative expression. Throughout our journey we will fuse fashion with other topics ranging from literature and art, to jobs and financial education. Fashion and style is not only about looking good, but feeling good.
